Our Long History In The Trade
The Gold Company was founded in 2008 by Michael, Roy, and Dan.Their goal was to meet Australia’s growing need for a trusted gold buyer—one that offers real financial solutions for everyday people.
Since then, we’ve grown into The Gold Company Group.
Today, we operate across multiple channels.
These include buying and selling precious metals, diamond trading, bullion investment, insurance, and expert valuation services.
Despite our growth, our purpose hasn’t changed.

Founders
Michael started his career serving an apprenticeship as a diamond cutter, polisher, cleaver, and marker for a major DeBeers sightholder in South Africa. In 1988, Michael then established a diamond cutting works (DCW) in Johannesburg CBD. The factory primarily traded in rough diamonds directly from the mine. In 2001, the family migrated to Australia, where they set up the DCLA, Australia’s first and only internationally accredited and endorsed diamond grading laboratory.
Roy began his career at Anglo American and De Beers, a multinational diamond and gold mining corporation. He joined. the DCW business in the 1990s. Roy played a key role in diamond trading. He also helped develop mining interests in Kimberley, South Africa, as well as in other African nations. His background in economics has shaped the strategy and direction of the FirstGold platform. His leadership ensures that every customer receives knowledgeable, informed service—built on decades of industry experience.
Dan owned and operated a professional aviation business in Australia. Dan’s business expertise is extensive across many different companies, including gold, diamonds, and other innovative technology companies. With a broad base of experience in marketing and commerce and a passion for gold trading and the gold market, Dan is a hands-on partner and leader. With his experience in selling and buying gold, Dan has earned the team an impeccable reputation in the trade around the globe.
